Preludio su un lamento is a work for solo viola. The lament and the sigh are the work’s central musical elements. Through its melodic line, the viola gives voice to an unheard, ignored, and powerless lament. A lament that, left unheard and misunderstood, gradually accumulates tension and sorrow until it reaches a climax, where the viola finally gives way to its cry. Afterwards, the lament recedes, leaving behind neither the pain nor the sadness.
